Vendors’ Opportunity to Profit From Digital Transformation

Inspired by a conversation with a good friend, I looked at some of my previous analysis about market opportunities for IT vendors and consultancies to profit from digital transformation efforts. I still believe technology companies are well positioned to identify opportunities to initiate larger digital transformation efforts but don’t have the all the necessary capabilities to help businesses through this process.

In 2015 I wrote, “Oftentimes a technology vendor is the driving force behind a company’s mission to becoming a data-driven organization. However, IT providers do not possess the expertise necessary to carry out large-scale organizational change, in which cases they should look to a partner.” Back then, I was evaluating opportunities for boutique analytics consulting companies to partner with either large IT or management consulting firms.

My recent survey for IT’s Roadmap for Digital Transformation found that IT leaders are skeptical of large consulting firms, but are open to having the same vendor assist with formulating a strategy and then implementing that vision. Two-thirds expect to work with a best-in-breed IT vendor to improve business processes. See the charts below for more information.
