Should community participants fork Docker to facilitate increased participation? And if so, should that activity occur within Open Container Initiative (OCI) projects? We don’t know the answers, but we have been evaluating the health of OCI projects. Using a dashboard created by Bitergia, we found that the number of authors providing commits has been steady and even growing over the last year. However, when looking at lines of code submitted we see significant spikes in June 2015 and March 2016. These dates correlate with significant updates made to the Docker project itself. One complaint among non-Docker employees is the company’s habit of dumping large code updates all at once — counter to current trends to push code updates in small batches.
