Kubernetes has the second most contributors reviewing code on GitHub, and in many other GitHub and social media metrics outperforms Docker and other container rivals. While some metrics are fluff, the number of contributors is a very useful indicator. Everyone knows it indicates how strong a community is; however, it also may point to how much code needs to be written. The chart indicates that at 1,631,392 lines of code, Kubernetes will soon be three times the size of the Docker project. Despite Docker’s strong community and in-house team, it would seem that Google and Red Hat have more in-house employees to crank out thousands of lines of code to make that trend line continue to soar. Of course, when it comes to how useful software is, does size really matter?
