Multiple Flavors of Multi-cloud

Hybrid cloud may mean a lot of things, but what does it mean for interoperability? Only 15 percent expect to primarily use hybrid cloud, according to a survey earlier this year by 451 Research and Microsoft. Another 25 percent plan to be able to migrate workloads or data between clouds, referring to situations defined as when a single business function is delivered across multiple clouds. Migration used with this broader definition of interoperability means that 40 percent of those surveyed will be using a multi-cloud environment. That still leaves well over half of cloud-using enterprises primarily using silos of infrastructure that don’t work across multiple clouds. C’est la vie.
