54 Percent of CIOs Have No Plans to Lift or Shift

Just because an application can be containerized or re-platformed does not mean it will be. When Deloitte asked CIOs about their core business applications, a majority said they only plan to enhance functionality, improve integration or stay put. True believers in the microservices/container revolution should not lose hope, though. Forty-two percent plan to replace their existing systems or re-platform the underlying infrastructure. How many of these core business apps can actually be “lifted” without making significant changes to the actual code is unknown. Even if CIOs decide to re-factor just a fraction of their core applications, that could stimulate developer demand for years to come.
